Seven years after the events of Neuromancer, the Sprawl is the same hard-edged corporate ecosystem and three lives are about to collide inside it. Turner, a top-tier corporate mercenary recovering in Mexico from a near-fatal extraction job, is hired to lift a star defector out of one biotech multinational and deliver him into the arms of a rival. Marly Krushkhova, a fired Paris gallery owner, is recruited by a reclusive trillionaire to find the maker of a series of haunting, autonomous boxes that seem to have assembled themselves out of orbital debris. And Bobby Newmark, a teenage hacker who calls himself Count Zero, plugs in a borrowed deck and is almost killed in his first run by something in cyberspace that should not be there. As the three threads converge, voodoo-named intelligences move through the matrix like fragments of a god that broke apart at the end of the previous book. William Gibson's 1986 sequel deepens the Sprawl trilogy's mythology while refining the prose into a colder, more elegant instrument. Read alongside Mona Lisa Overdrive, it remains one of the foundational works of cyberpunk and one of the genre's most influential meditations on art, capital, and the unfinished business of artificial minds.
