Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using Tonfolk (tonfolk.com), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. Description of service

Tonfolk is a curation and recommendation platform for AI audiobook voices. We help users discover, compare, and rate AI-generated narration voices for books. Tonfolk does not generate audio, host audiobook content, or provide text-to-speech services. We are a recommendation and discovery layer.

3. User accounts

Some features may require creating an account. You are responsible for:

  • Providing accurate information.
  • Maintaining the security of your account credentials.
  • All activity that occurs under your account.

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.

4. User content

When you submit ratings, reviews, or other content to Tonfolk, you:

  • Retain ownership of your content.
  • Grant Tonfolk a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display, distribute, and use your content in connection with the service.
  • Confirm the content does not violate any third-party rights.

We reserve the right to remove content that violates these terms, is spam, or is otherwise inappropriate.

If you delete your account, your ratings and suggestions will be anonymized (your name and identity removed) but retained on the platform for the benefit of other users.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the service for any unlawful purpose.
  • Submit false, misleading, or spam content.
  • Attempt to manipulate ratings or reviews.
  • Scrape, crawl, or automatically extract data from the service without permission.
  • Interfere with the service's infrastructure or other users' experience.
  • Impersonate another person or entity.

6. Third-party links and affiliate disclosure

Tonfolk contains links to third-party services, including AI voice platforms (e.g., ElevenLabs, Fish Audio). Some of these links are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission if you sign up for or purchase a service through them. This does not affect the price you pay or the voices we recommend.

When you click an affiliate link, you leave Tonfolk and are subject to the third party's terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party content, services, or practices.

7. Intellectual property

The Tonfolk name, logo, website design, and original content are owned by Tonfolk. Book metadata (titles, authors, covers) is sourced from public APIs and belongs to their respective rights holders. AI voice data is sourced from third-party platforms and belongs to their respective creators.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

Tonfolk is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that:

  • The service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
  • Voice recommendations will meet your expectations.
  • Third-party voice data or preview URLs will remain available.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Tonfolk shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid to Tonfolk in the 12 months preceding the claim (or zero if you are on a free plan).

10. Account deletion and termination

You may delete your account at any time from the Account settings page. Upon deletion, your personal data will be removed and your contributions (ratings, suggestions) will be anonymized as described in Section 4.

We may suspend or terminate your access to Tonfolk at any time if you violate these terms. Upon termination, your right to use the service ceases immediately. Sections 7, 8, 9, and 11 survive termination.

11. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany. The exclusive jurisdiction for all disputes is Hamburg, Germany, to the extent permitted by law.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Changes take effect when posted on this page. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. We will notify registered users of material changes via email.
